Karlovac

A city with roots in a medieval fortress built to fend off Turkish invasions, was established on July 13, 1579. The old town's central area still reflects the fortress's six-pointed star shape, once encircled by robust walls and deep moats.

Since its beginnings, Karlovac has served as a major transportation hub in Croatia. This is largely due to its advantageous location in the western part of the country, where the valleys of the Kupa, Korana, Mrežnica, and Dobra rivers converge.

Tourists flock to Karlovac each year, enticed by the pristine rivers and their tributaries, a wide range of recreational activities, hunting and fishing opportunities, numerous cultural and historical sites, and a plethora of tourist-friendly spots in the surrounding area.
